General WHS Inspection
This is a systematic and proactive approach aimed at substantially reducing the level of workplace illness/injury and greatly improving productivity. The purpose of a third party WHS inspection is to physically observe the day-to-day operations (with a ‘fresh set-of-eyes’) to determine the level of compliance at the workplace in-line with acceptable practices and requirements defined in the organisations’ operational manual and safe work method statement.
The inspections will be objective and shall include good practices of the workplace and those noted for improvement. A general inspection will comprise of the following sequence:-
- brief discussion with the manager/engineer, supervisor and team leader
- walk-through physical inspection of the shop-floor/work site/production area
- check that the operators possess the required competencies to carry out their work
- observe the operational process and note whether they are using safe work practices
- check that the operators understand the work-flow and that forklift/truck drivers have knowledge of the VMP
Note: we avoid talking at length to (on duty) operators, as this may be an unnecessary distraction to their work.

Specialised WHS Inspection
This includes customized inspection protocol to per-determined inspection checklist for a defined stage of operations. Identified hazards will be reported to the relevant supervisor at the time of inspection so that control measures can be implemented as soon as practicable. These inspections could include either, the Operations Manager, Safety Representative or a WHS Committee member.
These inspections will to be carried out by a competent person (either internal or external to SafeLink WHS Pty Ltd), such as a person will be with appropriate certificate of competency, or a recognised subject matter expert.
